So this happened yesterday. Sometimes you need to double up an already deliciously bulky yarn, dig out your gigantic 16mm hook, and make yourself or someone you love a wicked warm cowl.
The stitching on this is incredibly simple, and a round of foundation stitches – which I explain in the pattern – ensures the first round and last round look the same.
I made this baby in less time than it took me to watch three episodes of Downton Abbey, so I named it after one of my favourite characters (for the love of gods, if you used the powers of the internet to watch the third season like I did, no spoilers!).
I know of at least one person who’s getting one of these for Christmas this year, and it’s quite possible I’ll make myself another, simply because I want MOAR COWLS.
I used Debbie Bliss Paloma yarn held double throughout, and it’s deliciously soft.
Yarn: About 200 yards of super bulky yarn. Shown here: Debbie Bliss Paloma (60% baby alpaca, 40% merino wool; 65 m [71 yd] per 50 g), 0014 purple, 6 skeins (yarn held double throughout).
Hook: 16 mm (Q).
Gauge: 5 1/2 sts and 4 rows = 10 cm (4″) in pattern.
Finished size: 32″ circumference, 10″ high.
By it on Ravelry or Craftsy, and go make many holiday gifts!
This is beautiful, and with a daughter who wants to crochet it may be the thing that gets her truly hooked (no pun intended). (well maybe I did intend it, a little).
