Speaking of Free, I just love buying patterns from friends I’ve made in the online creative community. Mary-Heather Cogar came out with this one last fall, and I bought a copy right away.

It’s about the simplest triangle shawl pattern in the world, but the reason I love simple knitting so much is because I love not thinking when I knit. I love not even being tempted to think. I loved paying $5 to support Mary-Heather having done the thinking for me. (Also, I’ve met her. We’ve had beer together. Because of all the internet Free, see.) I knit the bulk of this shawl while attending mandatory adoption workshops during the last two weekends of January. So I had a lot to think about that wasn’t knitting.

I’ve also met the women who make Lorna’s Laces yarn, which I used to make the scarf. The colourway is called Vera, and it’s my favourite colourway in all the land. I sat on four skeins of this yarn for three years before committing two skeins of it to this project. Amanda, from the yarn company (we’ve had some pretty schmancy cocktails together), tells me it’s named after Lorna’s (the original Lorna) mother. Which makes me love it even more.

So, there you have it. Free leads to cash. Beer and cocktails at trade shows lead to more fun with yarn. I hope you’re taking notes.

You? Are awesome. :) Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed the pattern and carried your project with you for something so important. The Lorna's Laces is gorgeous (of course!) and the color is amazing on you!

The colorway is wonderful and it looks fabulous on you. I don't knit but I crochet a lot and that thing about thinking while doing it goes for crochet too. In fact, I think I am going to try to make a crochet shawl similar to this one. I guess I'll have to think about the first one anyway.

So beautiful (both you and the scarf)! Good luck with the adoption;what a wonderful and exciting thing to do.

Good luck with the mandatory adoption workshops- I remember attending ours dutifully & resentfully (2x adoptive parent here) Altho, now that I think about it, years later some of the material was useful. Who knew?
The shawl is fab on you.
