Flickr Makes the World Smaller

A couple of weeks ago I got Flickr mail from a user asking if YellowPages.ca could use one of my photos on their homepage for a couple of weeks. The message was terse, but I don’t get many messages on Flickr, so I have a tendency to read them all as legit*. It was legit, so I said sure, as long as they credited the photo. I got a nice note last week alerting me that the image went up, and I really didn’t think anything of it. I was on the road at that point, which is sort of like living in a universe parallel to the one I inhabit when I’m home.

Then I started getting emails. And texts. And Facebook notes. It would seem many of my friends use YellowPages.ca to find stuff. I don’t know why I was surprised, as I use the site, too. But I was.

And anyway my point is, doesn’t Flickr just make the world smaller? It’s fun, and fairly ridiculous.

* I get a fair number of very not-legit and irrelevant notes and emails that aren’t spam. Requests for link exchanges (I don’t care what things were like ten years ago, I consider all link exchange requests to be unkosher), requests for patterns, questions about work that isn’t mine, press releases about animals I’ve never heard of. In the last year, I’ve become very comfortable deleting email without a second thought.
