You guys, I know how to sew!
Something major happened in the last few months, you guys. Somehow, without lifting a finger, all the blog posts and articles I’ve read about sewing crossed into the atmosphere of my brain. The other night, I got it into my head to make Owen a little bag. To my surprise, he was totally into it. He picked the fabric from my small stash, brought each piece to me to iron, took the warm pieces back and laid them “flat” on the couch, and didn’t seem to mind that it took me quite a long time to then measure and cut them. Following this tutorial, but for much smaller...

So, fine, it’s 2013 already. I had to debug a little WordPress to get images to work on the blog, and that took up almost all the time I had to blog over the last while. My excuses thus delivered, here’s a summing up of my last year in making, viewable as a slideshow if you’re so inclined (just click a thumbnail and proceed in the obvious way). Oh, but first, a look ahead. You’ll notice there’s some food in here. I’m cooking and baking more than I used to (which was pretty much never, so I don’t mean to imply I do it all the time), and this coming...

Last Saturday was Swap-O-Rama-Rama here in Vancouver. It’s a massive clothing swap, complete with sewing machines and screen printing so you can alter new-to-you clothes right at the event. It’s one of my favourite events of the year. I try to bring two full bags of clothes I need to get rid of, and come home with no more than one full bag. I didn’t have superduper mojo this year, but I did score an unexpectedly awesome floral top1. And I took home this panda t-shirt thinking I’d make a toy for Owen out of it. Now, I’d never actually sewn a toy from a t-shirt...
Read MoreA Blanket and a Pillow: WIP Wednesday
I’ve never participated in WIP (work-in-progress) Wednesday before, but since I’ve enjoyed sharing my progress on the Land and Sea blanket, I figured doing so on a Wednesday wouldn’t be too much of a stretch. And also, I have another project to share. I’ve been crafty, people. First, behold. I have completed the first (very small) contrast section on Land and Sea. I hadn’t mentioned it’s not a one-colourway blanket, had I? Well. I wanted to call it Sea to Sky, but my friend Alexa already has a blanket with that name, so I had to get not-at-all creative....
Read More2010: My Year in Crafts
2010 was the year I ventured far from my yarn-crafting comfort zone, which is not to imply I was uncomfortable doing it. Inspired by my cousin’s jewelry making, I learned how to make earrings. Armed with a bag of implements I bought off Craigslist and knowledge gained from a workshop at the Summit of Awesome, I started screen printing. And I finally, finally, progressed from thinking about sewing to actually learning how to do it. In fact, as I write this there are four newly completed zipper pouches in front of me. They aren’t perfect, but I know what I want to do differently...
