Mighty Ugly. It’s a creativity exercise, and also a book. In person, I help people and groups cozy up to the scary things that hold us back. The book is a handbook for vanquishing creative demons, filled with essays, interviews, quotes, resources and exercises. I lead in-person workshops, speak to groups of all sizes, and generally wave my arms around encouraging people to make stuff, even if it’s ugly (especially if it’s ugly). I also work as a freelance editor, mainly with self-publishers.
I help people start to do things they've never done before and have more fun making stuff. Kinda like a camp counselor for grown-ups. My latest book, Make It Mighty Ugly: Exercises And Advice For Getting Creative Even When It Ain't Pretty, is in bookstores and libraries everywhere. It's a handbook for vanquishing creative demons so you can go ahead and make stuff – art, craft, whatever! Here's a handy list of other things about me.
