T-Shirt to Plush in Half an Hour

Last Saturday was Swap-O-Rama-Rama here in Vancouver. It’s a massive clothing swap, complete with sewing machines and screen printing so you can alter new-to-you clothes right at the event. It’s one of my favourite events of the year. I try to bring two full bags of clothes I need to get rid of, and come home with no more than one full bag. I didn’t have superduper mojo this year, but I did score an unexpectedly awesome floral top1. And I took home this panda t-shirt thinking I’d make a toy for Owen out of it. Shwin & Shwin’s 20-Minute Upcycled T-Shirt Scarf

And I finally, finally, progressed from thinking about sewing to actually learning how to do it. In fact, as I write this there are four newly completed zipper pouches in front of me. They aren’t perfect, but I know what I want to do differently...

Upcycled Old Door: Now It’s a Side Table

Posted by on Jul 7, 2010 in Highlight, Living Creatively, Photos | 24 comments

Last summer we opened up the wall between our living room and what’s now kind of like a sub-living-room, or a den. Our 90-year-old Craftsmen bungalow feels much more airy and open now, and I’ve enjoyed the excuse to redecorate these two front rooms (and no, I don’t mean to imply that we’ve actually done anything with the “new” room yet). The living room is the room you enter when you come into the house through the front door, and I’ve always wanted to put a small table near the entrance so we’d have a convenient place to keep our keys and...
