Knitted Dalek: The Geekiest, Most Awesome Baby Gift Ever

Posted by on Mar 11, 2011 in Crafts, Highlight, Pop Culture | 11 comments

Imagine, if you would, how loudly I squealed when my stitch-group friend Marie gave me this knitted Dalek last week. DUDE. How awesome is this? And she made it a rattle. I can’t wait till Owen properly interacts with toys. You, too, can knit a Dalek if you’re so inclined. Marie told me she used the Extermiknit pattern, slightly modified. She put a little pocket in there to hold a wee Dalek-in-the-flesh, too. Brilliant. Between this Dalek and the Jayne hats my friends Marianela and Mercedes made Owen, he’s well on his way to becoming a full-on geek. We’re very lucky...

What Would the Picard Do: A Screen Printing Test

Posted by on Aug 3, 2010 in Crafts, Highlight | 9 comments

A few months ago on a slow work day I bought a bunch of screen printing supplies off Craigslist. I’d never actually screen printed anything, but I was seized by the crafts monster that lives in my occipital lobe, constantly searching for good crafty bargains. In June at the Summit of Awesome I took Christy Petterson‘s screen printing workshop. Serendipity. That woman changed my life, I swear. I honestly can’t think of a more delightful way to start the weekend. Especially a weekend devoted to moving passed the stress and angst of the last couple of weeks. I bought this chair from my neighbour for a buck. We’ll spiff up the wood a bit, and though I love the worn green paint, Greg only agreed to accept the chair if we paint the legs yellow to match the new upcycled table. I’ll miss the well-used look of...

A Recipe for Seething Resentment

Last month during KDTV taping, Shannon shot the longest two minutes of YouTube video ever. Wanna see the sort of antics that go on in the green room between segments? Here you go. But the real reason I’m posting this is because—you may not have already known this—Eunny has the most delightfully keen talent for cut-downs (see the title of this post). I intend this as the highest compliment; it’s one of the reasons I adore her as much as I do. See how she stops us in our tracks as we go a little overboard about, um, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with some Firefly tossed in because...

[Cleo & Jayne Amigurumi = Defenders of the Yard, originally uploaded by kpwerker.] It arrived! My early birthday present to myself. Geek Central Station is a genius. She paid such amazing attention to detail! That there gun is the only one I’ve ever liked. Every crafty geek should pay her shop a visit. In an attempt to clear my scattered brain of late, I’ve succumbed to decided to take the 365 self-portraits challenge. We’ll see how that goes… FacebookTwitterPinterestGoogle +1MoreLinkedInEmailRedditDiggTumblrStumbleUpon[Cleo & Jayne Amigurumi = Defenders of...
